BANG! (Broadband Applications and Networks Group)

BANG examines multi-modal semi-synchronous communications. These include text, voice and video communications in both real-time and store-and-forward modes. We develop applications for and with actual South African communities, e.g. Canzibe Hospital in the Eastern Cape for rural tele-health, and Deaf Community of Cape Town (DCCT) for Deaf telephony.

SASL (Integration of Signed and Verbal Communication: South African Sign Language Recognition and Animation)

The SASL projects draws on its members expertise in the fields of Artificial Intelligence, Signal Processing, Image Processing, Encryption, Mobile Devices and Networking to develop the necessary tool sets to perform translation from South African Sign Language to Speech and vice versa.
